LETTER: Endorsing Scott Ryder for School Board

Opinions expressed are those of the letter writer and do not necessarily reflect the views of Patch Media. Opposing viewpoints are welcomed.

I'm writing to introduce you to Scott Ryder, one of three new members of Enfield’s Democratic BOE team.
Scott, his wife and two children moved to Enfield several years ago. They came with the idea of finding
a community that fit their active lifestyle, one with good schools and one where he and his family could become involved. Enfield fit these criteria.

Reviewing his resume since arriving, it’s clear that Scott made community and educational involvement a second career. Since 2013 he has become a volunteer in a wide variety of activities. The major beneficiary of his volunteer work is Enfield’s primary and secondary schools. Scott volunteers over 150 hours annually in these schools. Additionally, a non-inclusive list of his other volunteer activities includes being an EPS Mentor, PTO President at Hazardville Memorial School, a Member of the Mayor’s Advisory Council and a Board Member of Enfield’s “2Moms on a Mission” and Kite’s “Enfield Plays On”. Scott also finds time to be a volunteer coach for Enfield’s Youth Soccer and the Enfield Little League. For fun, he regularly runs
marathons. Sounds exhausting doesn’t it, but Scott gets it done well, professionally and with great enthusiasm.

Although new to politics, Scott’s not new to education in Enfield. His volunteer work is just one aspect of his
commitment to Enfield’s children and families. Promoting and increasing communication between Enfield’s families and staff is another. Using his extensive background in Marketing and Meetings & Events Production - vocations requiring strong teamwork, communications skills and compromise, he has brought a professional approach to managing, promoting and supporting our schools and PTOs. I envision that he will bring these
same skills and record of accomplishment to our BOE should you honor him with your vote.

Being a BOE member requires someone with Scott’s skill sets and dedication to make a positive difference.
Scott has an envious and proven track record of volunteering, leading and accomplishing goals for Enfield’s parents and kids. His intelligence, extensive skills, dedication and enthusiasm for our community is just what we need in Enfield.

As a longtime Enfield teacher/administrator and three-term Enfield BOE member, I enthusiastically endorse Scott Ryder for the Enfield BOE. Please vote for Scott and the other members of our BOE team; Tina, Sarah, Marci and me. Together, we will work to get the best for Enfield’s children and citizens.
