ENFIELD, CT — As a town council member, I always tried to keep all residents in mind - that includes adults, children, voters, non-voters, etc. Typically town council’s involvement with the Board of Education is primarily around budget. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t seen what else goes on behind closed doors.

I want to remain hopeful that we, as a town, can work together to make Enfield’s education great, but I don’t see how that can happen if we continue to elect the same people from the same party. We continue to elect a Republican majority who, with the superintendent, continue to make poor decisions about our schools and about the financial implication of their impulsive spending. We see this time and time again. For example, the school district just spent an enormous amount of money to redo the computer lab at the high school and put brand new Apple computers in. Now they have decided that they don’t need to use this area because the kids now have iPads.

We have to stop allowing this behavior to continue. The only way I see this happening is by thinking outside the box and electing independent thinkers. We need elected officials who are there to support the whole child. We need elected officials that won’t vote party line. We need responsible decision makers who only have the best interest of the student in mind.

That is why I am officially endorsing the Voices for Enfield candidates for Board of Education. I believe that Liz Davis, Marcy Taliceo and Monica Wright have every intention to hear all the facts, ask necessary questions, listen to residents and form their own opinions on a topic before them. We need candidates that are there for the right reason, not just for the prestige of being elected. I believe that these candidates are genuine, honest and focused on supporting Enfield education.

District 4 Town Councilor
