LETTER: Enfield School Board Chairman Should Resign Due to His Inappropriate Posts
Opinions expressed are those of the letter writer and do not necessarily reflect the views of Patch Media. Opposing viewpoints are welcomed.

This letter was emailed to all nine Enfield Board of Education members on Feb. 5, 2017, and just one bothered to respond; therefore, we are forwarding the letter to the media.
Enfield Board of Education:
As Chairman of the Board of Education, Tom Sirard is expected to maintain his position as a town official with dignity, respect for others and open-mindedness that should be a representation of the families and children he is charged with representing. However, this is clearly NOT the case. Tom Sirard has shown time and time again that he lacks basic decency and sensitivity for ideas and people he does not agree with. Recent Facebook posts on his page are egregious and disgusting! His recent post of Abraham Lincoln declaring, ‘Democrats haven’t been this mad since slavery ended’ shows a very seriously flawed character. This is an elected Republican that has no regard for the pain posts like this might cause.

While these posts, never acceptable, might be palatable from someone else, this is extremely alarming considering his position requires him to represent the best interests for all the citizens and students in Enfield and not just his personal prejudiced views.
These Facebook posts, coupled with recent concerns of Chairman Sirard's inability to act in a forthright manner concerning the closing of Nathan Hale, indicate to many that the board should do what is necessary to remove him as Chairman of the Board of Ed and if possible, remove him from the Board of Education as well. He sets a bad example for the students and faculty of our schools and the citizens of Enfield deserve better behavior from their elected officials. Is this the face of public education that we want to have represent us? Is this what the Republican Party has to offer us as a leader? I hope not!!

I am requesting a follow up to this email sooner than later as this email will not include all posts that have been captured; however I do have many more to share with you should you feel the need. I am hoping the ones attached are enough as I find each to be heinous enough to have him removed. This town and these children deserve better and I hope this can be resolved on a local level.
