LETTER: Enfield Senior Center Fiasco Still Stings
Opinions expressed are those of the letter writer and do not necessarily reflect the views of Patch Media. Opposing viewpoints are welcomed.

Our Enfield seniors suffered a huge loss when Susan Lather, former director of the Enfield Senior Center was forced to resign. Susan made the senior center what it is today. She brought so many programs to the Senior Center, and made it a place our seniors enjoyed going to. She was also very welcoming to those that may not have felt initially comfortable going.
This last scenario was my Mom. After my Dad passed away, my Mom was very lonely, so I met with Susan to ask her what kinds of activities were available to someone like my mom. Not only did Susan take the time to meet with me, she set up a time for my Mom to come and visit the Senior Center, and when I came with my Mom, Susan made her feel so welcome. This meant the world to me, and is something I will never forget.
What happened to Susan was so unfair not only to Susan, but to our Senior Community in Enfield. Now I am hearing that ‘the plan’ is to combine the Senior Center, Library, and Recreation Department and make the Senior Center a ‘Community Center’. I guess this is our town leaders and majority party’s (Republicans) way of saying our Senior Citizens no longer matter in Enfield? And as usual, instead of our town leaders just being open and honest, these things are done in a very unprofessional and underhanded way. Forcing Susan to ‘resign’ was just the beginning. Do they really think citizens in Enfield are not watching what is going on? Well we are watching and paying close attention.

Now more than ever Enfield needs a change in leadership. How many more valuable employees does Enfield need to lose before we say enough! I care very much about our seniors in town and feel they deserve only the best. Now the senior center lost the best director and may be changing in a way that does not benefit our seniors. In my opinion, this situation was a slap in the face to our senior population in Enfield.
