LETTER: Liz Davis Rises Above Negativity to Fight for Enfield Residents

Opinions expressed are those of the letter writer and do not necessarily reflect the views of Patch Media. Opposing viewpoints are welcomed.

I’ve sat back for months now and watched members of the Enfield Republican party try to disparage the character of Democratic Chair Elizabeth Davis. As a citizen, taxpayer and voter of Enfield, this has caused me to question the integrity of the many who are in the important position of representing our community.

When I tuned in to a town meeting only to see our top official publicly reprimanding Liz, a hero of our country, I was appalled and disturbed. This along with the multiple articles that have been released by residents and other town officials to challenge her integrity as a leader has made me question the real motives of the individuals behind the party.

I am not a politician and I am not writing this as a means to incite any political discord, however it would seem to me that someone needs speak on behalf of Liz. I don’t believe she will engage in responding to the inaccuracies and criticism of those who have chosen to write in, and I have a feeling it is because her focus is on more important topics. She rises above the negativity and continues to be a fighter and a leader for the citizens of Enfield.

Liz Davis is a dedicated, loyal and caring pillar of our community and it is disheartening that her counterparts seem determined to prove otherwise. I am not entirely sure of the intent behind the opposition because if you know Liz, you know that this is one of the most upstanding individuals you will meet. I have personally seen her take time out of her life for families in need of advocacy. Families that her Republican counterparts have forgotten or “are working on” getting to, Liz is there and no one would ever know because she doesn’t make it about herself. This is a person who deserves respect, way more respect than I have seen her get.

Again, this is not a politically driven letter, but it's hard to ignore the clear party line division. The division in this country has damaged the progress of this country, and my hope for our community is that we can find ways to mend that divide for the good of the whole.
