Local Ballroom Couple to Compete at World Championships
Evgueni Chaoulski & Sara Schilling will be competing at the Ballroom World Championships in Moscow, Russia in October.

Do you watch shows like “Dancing with the Stars” or “So You Think You Can Dance” and think that the costumes, dark tans, and rhinestones are from a fairy tale land? The world of glitz and glamour is part of everyday life for local Ballroom and Latin dance couple, Evgueni Chaoulski and Sara Schilling. The couple has qualified to compete at the World Ballroom Championships held October 26, inside the Kremlin in Moscow, Russia.
There is only one World Ballroom Championship held per year. Each country can send two couples to represent them at the World Championship, based on the couples’ results at the National Championship. Evgueni, who is from Montreal, and Sara, originally from Tolland, CT, will be one of these two couples, representing Canada.
Evgueni and Sara have been dancing together for 11 years now. After meeting on an England dance partner search website, they tried dancing together and decided to pair up. Their partnership has flourished since then both professionally and personally. They have traveled not only locally to compete, but internationally as well, ranging from Japan to Costa Rica and many more countries. They are not strangers to World Championships either. Most couples are honored to get to compete at one in their dance career. This will be Evgueni and Sara’s 7th World Championship! Outside of their professional careers, they started and run a successful dance studio, EdanSe Company & Ballroom, in Enfield, CT. The studio is home to dancers of all ages and levels from social dancing to competitive dancing. Walking into the historic studio, you can easily feel the passion and love they have for dance. Sara says, “When you truly love what you do, it never feels like work, just fun.” Fun is certainly what they have, even hosting dances every Saturday night open to everyone who wants to dance. When they are not at the studio they are coaching or judging the Collegiate ballroom circuit. They are proud coaches of 4 college teams; UConn, Trinity College, Wesleyan University, and UMass Amherst’s Ballroom Teams. Working with so many students helps to inspire them and motivate them. Being able to share their knowledge keeps their students constantly learning and excited for the next step. “Dancing brings people together and enhances every aspect of people’s lives.” says Evgueni Chaoulski.
In both a celebration and a fundraiser for the expense of this trip, they will be hosting an EdanSe Affaire Celebration on Saturday, October 13th. The party will begin at 6:00 pm and will go until 11:00 pm. The event will include dinner, desserts, raffles, door prizes, and plenty of dancing. Evgueni and Sara will be performing all 5 dances they will be competing in, as well as some special performances from the fabulous staff of EdanSe. Tickets are only $30 per person before October 6th and $39 per person after October 6th.
