SUFFIELD, CT — An amazing photograph by Suffield resident Libby Lord has been selected to appear as part of the 2021 greeting card line of the National Wildlife Federation (NWF).

Lord's photo, "Hummingbird Landing On a Petal," will appear in the next series of high-quality greeting cards produced annually for over 40 years by the NWF, the country's largest private, nonprofit conservation education and advocacy organization.

A letter Lord received from the NWF stated, "As part of the card setup, we give copyright credit to artists and photographers on the back of every card, along with a bit of informational copy about the animal or habitat and National Wildlife Federation. The artists’ and photographers’ names are also published in our catalogs/website (www.shopnwf.org) as part of the product description."

Lord said she has won some photography contests in New England in the past, but this will be the first time her work will be featured nationally.

"I’m thrilled and honored that they chose my photo to be included in their card line this year, especially since the National Wildlife Federation is one of the organizations I respect most in this country," Lord said in an interview with Patch. "Their efforts to protect at-risk wildlife species and defend our public lands, waterways and wildlife are efforts that are near and dear to my heart. I know how much spending time outdoors, in nature, has given me – the rewards are immeasurable."

A lover of bird and wildlife photography as well as landscape images, Lord began sharing her work via her Facebook page, Libby Lord Photography, in 2014. Since then, the page has grown to nearly 1,200 followers from all over the world. When followers requested a way to purchase her work, she added a gallery on Fine Art America, where custom prints, framed photos, home décor and gifts were available for purchase.

Lord participates in local craft fairs and farmers markets, where she enjoys the support of the Suffield community. Each year, she creates a new "Suffield" calendar, which includes photos taken around town, as well as images from her travels and photos of wild birds seen in town and nearby.

Birds and wildlife photography have become an important part of Lord's life. Bald eagles are her passion; she has spent countless hours learning about them, observing them and photographing them over the last six years. She volunteers her time to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection by reporting the progress of area nests, and stepping in with support where needed.

She has also become an advocate for raptor rescue and rehabilitation. With the high number of collisions between cars and birds of prey, there is a need to get information to others interested in helping injured raptors along the roadways. Through her Facebook page, she shares information about raptor rescue, hoping to inspire others to step in when they see an injured bird.

"My photography has done so much for me," she said. "Not so much monetarily, but to my enjoyment of, and the quality of my life."
