Officials of the Enfield Square met with Town Council members at a special meeting Tuesday night to discuss the possibility of converting part of the struggling mall into a gambling center.
Mall management is looking at the stated desire of legislators to place a casino north of Hartford as “an incredible opportunity,” according to the Hartford Courant.

One preliminary proposal presented Tuesday was for a two-story casino on the south side of the building, at the site of the current Macy’s Men’s and Home, formerly the longtime home of the JCPenney department store. Another idea would involve use of the current Sears department store and adjacent Sears Auto Center on the east side of the property, the Courant reported.
Some council members on both sides of the aisle expressed reservations about a casino moving into Enfield, the paper said.
