Manufacturing Technology Center at ACC to Continue Growth

$1.1 million in funding on the State Bond Commission's March 30 agenda.

State Sen. John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) has announced that $1.1 million for Asnuntuck Community College’s Manufacturing Technology Center has been placed on this month’s State Bond Commission agenda.

“The wheels are now in motion for this key investment in our north-central Connecticut workforce,” Kissel said. “I fought for this funding because I felt we really needed to reward programs and schools that set the highest standards. Asnuntuck’s manufacturing program is a role model. The manufacturing technology center can train workers for jobs that exist now. At the same time, we can start building similar programs across Connecticut that are modeled on Asnuntuck's success. This is a smart move for the state, because there's still a pressing need among Connecticut's manufacturers for people with specialized skills. I thank the governor for moving this funding forward.”

Asnuntuck will ultimately receive a total of $2.2 million over two years for its Manufacturing Technology Center as part of the $626 million jobs bill passed by the state legislature in October. The center is planning to use the funds to fuel an ambitious growth plan, nearly doubling the number of students in the program.
