Mary Ellen Harbeck, 79; Retired Health Professor Who Lived in Enfield

Mary Ellen Harbeck, 79, of Enfield, widow of Robert Thomas Harbeck (2010), passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 20, 2015, at home surrounded by her family.

Mary Ellen was born in Canandaigua, NY, the only daughter of the late John and Mary (Kennedy) Mooney.

Mary Ellen had lived in Enfield since 1987 and prior had lived in Springfield, MA and also Chicago, IL. She earned a BSN from Nazareth College before earning a M.Ed. from American International College. She had been employed by Springfield Technical Community College as a Professor of Allied Health for almost 29 years retiring in 1999.

She is survived by two children, Mary Louise Howland and her husband Christopher of Enfield and Patricia Harbeck Smith and her husband Leo of Somers; four grandchildren, Amorette O’Brien and her husband Liam, Craigin Howland and his fiancée Sara Tung, Lyndsy McIntyre and her husband Neal, and Jennifer Howell and her husband Edward; seven great-grandchildren, Halyn, Griffin, and Eden McIntyre, Aidan and Aubrie Howell, Brogan and Flynn O’Brien.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, John Mooney.

There are no calling hours and the burial will be private. A memorial service in celebration of Mary Ellen’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 24, 2015 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Enfield, CT.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Home and Community Hospice, PO Box 1199, Enfield, CT 06083.
