Memorial Day Checkpoints Tapped For Enfield, Ellington
State police will be out in full force beginning Thursday.

State police said they will be out in full force beginning Thursday for extra Memorial Day weekend patrols looking for speeders, drunken drivers, cell phone users and motorists not using seat belts.
The extra enforcement efforts consists mainly of dedicated patrols on most major state highways and secondary roads, state police spokewoman Trooper First Class Kelly Grant said on Tuesday.
But two sobriety checkpoints have been scheduled for the area on May 28 and 27, respectively.

They are:
- Enfield - at the Exit 48 ramp system off Interstate-91.
- Ellington - at Meadowbrook Plaza on Route 83.
- The hours are from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
State police said motorist need to remember to buckle up, obey speed limits, don’t follow too closely.

"Remove distractions while driving, stay off the cellphone, and never drink and drive," state police said.
The enforcement efforts are part of the national CARE or Combined Accident Reduction Effort program. The Operation CARE holiday weekend will begin on Thursday, May 26 and will continue until midnight Monday, May 30.
