ENFIELD, CT — A new political party has been formed in Enfield, and a petition form for a slate of candidates for the upcoming municipal election has been submitted to the Secretary of the State's office.

Voices for Enfield, which calls itself "a party of free thinkers, who believe in transparency, quality education and building a strong community" on its new web site, has put forth five candidates for elected office for the Nov. 5 election: Liz Davis, Marcy Taliceo and Monica Wright (Board of Education), Colleen Reidy (Town Council at-large) and Eileen MacDonald (constable).

The quintet, as well as at least six other members of the Enfield Democratic Town Committee, resigned from that panel following a contentious caucus in July, during which the endorsed slate of Democratic candidates was challenged by numerous nominations of others from the floor. The meeting disintegrated into shouting matches, name-calling and hostility, leading to radical changes to the nominee slate and the resignation of Davis, the committee chair since 2016.

Members of Voices for Enfield gathered enough signatures on a nominating petition to submit the paperwork to the office of the Secretary of the State.

"We're working together as a team to do our best and put our money where our mouths are," said Gina Sullivan, who is serving as party chair and treasurer.
