New Principal Appointed At Eli Whitney School

ENFIELD, CT — A longtime Enfield school system employee has started work at her most recent endeavor, as the new principal of Eli Whitney Elementary School.

Kate Flanaghan was recently appointed to the position by the Enfield Board of Education, and officially began work on July 1. Prior to her appointment, she worked in many capacities within the Enfield Public School district, including assistant principal at Henry Barnard Elementary School, academic coach at Hazardville Memorial and Eli Whitney elementary schools, and as a classroom teacher at Prudence Crandall and Henry Barnard elementary schools.

She has served over 10 years as a State of Connecticut TEAM mentor and cooperating teacher for new teacher candidates, in addition to her work for the Capitol Region Educational Council (CREC) as a District Liaison - Choice Summer Program academic coach and curriculum developer.

Flanaghan earned a Master of Education degree in special education from American International College, a Sixth-Year Certificate in educational leadership from Central Connecticut State University, and an Advanced Certificate in social-emotional-learning from the University of Colorado. Prior to the graduate programs, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from American International College and an Associate in Liberal Arts degree from Asnuntuck Community College.

Flanaghan has been a member of the Enfield Beautification Committee and a member and continued supporter of the Enfield Lions Club. She resides in Enfield with her husband David and is a proud parent to three grown children who continue to reside, work and support the Enfield community.
