Obituary: Richard E. Stewart

Richard grew up in Enfield and was an Army veteran.

Richard “Rick” E. Stewart, Jr. 56, of Woodstock Valley, entered into eternal rest, on Friday August 2, 2013 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, MA. Richard was born on Nov. 7, 1956 in Hartford, CT son of Vivian (Gibson) Stewart and the late Richard E. Stewart. He grew up in Enfield attended local schools and was a graduate of Enrico Fermi High School, Enfield. Rick then enlisted in the service and served his country honorably for 6 ½ years with the U.S. Army and was a military policeman having been stationed in Germany & Korea. He resided on Lake Bungee in Woodstock Valley, CT for many years.

Prior to his retirement in 2002 Rick was employed for over 20 years with the State of Connecticut, Department of Corrections, at the Somers & Brooklyn facilities. Rick was a member of the NRA, and in his leisure he enjoyed photography, woodworking, and golfing, as an avid sportsmen he liked hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, kayaking and was also a NASCAR racing fan.

Besides his mother, Richard is survived by his companion and best friend, Chris Frothingham and her family; his siblings Deborah (Stewart) Ferrari of Ellington, Daniel Stewart of Enfield and Kim (Stewart) Garrity also of Enfield, his niece and three nephews and two great-nieces, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father in 2007.

Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours on Tuesday (Aug. 6, 2013) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday (Aug. 7, 2013) at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David Williams officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Hazardville Cemetery in Enfield. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
