ENFIELD, CT — Enfield officials seem close to turning a potentially tragic animal cruelty case into a true happy ending.

And the skinny on a once-malnourished dog is that he's no longer skinny.

In a social media post Wednesday, police and the animal control division told the story about Zooka, who is ready to be adopted.

Zooka is about 2 years old and is believed to be a pit bull-pointer mix. About six months ago, he was found on a roaming call that turned into a cruelty case that wound up in the Connecticut judicial system.

When found, Zooka had a minor ear infection and weighed just 38 pounds. "Most of his skeletal system" was visible because his prior owner "neglected to give him food," police and animal control officials said.

He very quickly gained his body weight back and is healthy again, while weighing in at about 70 pounds. He has high energy now, officials said.

"He knows some manners but could use training," officials quipped. "He has been with us for approximately six months and would like a new, loving home ASAP."

Zooka can be adopted via Enfield Animal Control at 860-763-8944 or via email at dyoho@enfield.org.
