ENFIELD, CT — Fans of the Bloomin' Onion will have to drive a bit further to obtain one of the popular appetizers, as Outback Steakhouse has closed the doors on its Enfield location.

Word about the closure came Monday morning, to the surprise of several people on social media who noted they had dined there Sunday evening.

Longtime restaurant associate Kesli Jones told Patch, "We love this town and love the people, but unfortunately this location is closed forever."

On Facebook, Jones wrote, "With a very heavy heart, Outback in Enfield has closed its doors permanently. Lease was up and rent went up with it. Unfortunately it wasn't practical to keep our doors open."

Jones estimated the Enfield restaurant had been open for about 13 years.

Outback Steakhouse, an Australian-themed casual dining restaurant chain, was founded in Tampa, Fla. in 1988. It features a variety of steaks, seafood, burgers and salads, and became famous for its Bloomin' Onion, a 1-pound onion cut to bloom open, breaded, deep-fried and served with mayonnaise-horseradish sauce.

The closure in Enfield comes nearly two years to the day after the Manchester location closed up shop, on Jan. 26, 2020. The nearest locations to Enfield are now in Newington or West Springfield, Mass.
