PHOTOS: 17th Annual Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame Celebrity Golf Classic

140 golfers, including six celebrities, teed off Saturday at the Oak Ridge Country Club to support Enfield's sports shrine.

Five former professional athletes and a respected actor from one of the all-time great sports films joined more than 130 other golfers at the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame's 17th annual Celebrity Golf Classic Saturday.

Headlining the celebrity field was Steve Nelson, a 14-year veteran of the New England Patriots. He was named to three Pro Bowls, was an NFL All-Pro linebacker in 1980, led the Patriots into Super Bowl XX and was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 1993.

Other sports figures appearing in the tournament were Barry Pearson (Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs), Garry Swain (Pittsburgh Penguins, New England Whalers), Billy Jo Robidoux (Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox) and Ron Diorio (Philadelphia Phillies).

Rounding out the celebrity field for the third straight year was actor Paul D'Amato. He played a small, but pivotal role as a Green Beret opposite Robert DeNiro in the Academy Award-winning 1978 movie The Deer Hunter, but he is best known for his villainous role as Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken in the 1977 Paul Newman film Slap Shot

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Hall of Fame operations budget and scholarship fund.
