PHOTOS: Class of 2016 Inducted into Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame
Five individuals, a league championship team and a longstanding community sporting event were honored at the 21st annual induction dinner.
FEEDING HILLS, MA — For the 21st straight year, sports figures from a variety of backgrounds were honored Saturday night at the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame induction dinner.
An enthusiastic crowd of families, friends and former athletes, including 17 previous Hall of Fame honorees, gathered at the Oak Ridge Country Club to welcome three athletes, two coaches, a league championship team and a community-minded sporting event into the Enfield shrine.
Former Fermi High School wrestling coach Ben Aleks and current Enfield High School boys volleyball coach Judy Joslin were inducted, as were baseball/basketball player Jeff Maier, bowler Keith Porcello and distance runner Glenn Reese.

The 1984 CCIL champion Fermi High School softball team was also inducted, and the Scantic Spring Splash was honored with the George Daly Special Recognition Award.

BEN ALEKS
Wrestling coach at Fermi High School from 1984-1994. Career record of 171-71-2, a .705 winning percentage. Helmed three of the four best seasons in Fermi history: 1987 (21-2, CCC East champions), 1991 (23-3) and 1990 (20-5). Class LL runnerup in 1985 (19-5 record). Never had a losing record in 11 years at Fermi. Teams were ranked in the state end-of-season Top 15 four times. Coached 11 Class champions, two State Open champions, 19 State Open placewinners and four New England Championships placewinners
JUDY JOSLIN
Founded the boys volleyball program at Enfield High School in 1992, becoming one of the few female coaches of a boys' team in Connecticut. Coached the Raiders to three Class M runnerup finishes (2007, 2008 and 2013); coached North team in 2013 Connecticut High School Coaches Association Boys Volleyball Senior All-Star Game.
JEFF MAIER
Enfield High School, 1981 graduate. Captained baseball, basketball and cross country teams. Averaged 17.2 points per game in basketball as a junior; had single-game high of 30 points. Batted .391 with 24 steals in baseball in senior year. Played three years of varsity basketball at Geneseo State College in New York, averaging 18.2 ponts per game as a senior and making the All-State Universities of New York Athletic Conference team.
KEITH PORCELLO
Fermi High School, 1980 graduate. Played three years of basketball at Fermi, but made his mark following school on the bowling lanes. To date, has tossed 35 perfect 300 games and 20 800+ series, and holds the seventh-highest single season average in Massachusetts Tri-County Bowling Association history with a 233 at AMF Chicopee in 2000-01.
GLENN REESE
Fermi High School, 1975 graduate. Cross country and track standout who won eight dual meets as a senior, setting three course records and placing fourth in the CCIL meet. Two-time winner of Suffield 10K and Johnson Memorial 3-mile races; won Steven Blake Memorial 10K in Enfield; won Shenipsit Striders three-race series in 1986; finished 37th out of more than 7,800 runners in Washington Marathon; competed more than a dozen times in Boston Marathon; 20+ marathons overall.
1984 FERMI SOFTBALL
Won the CCIL championship with an undefeated 18-0 regular season.
SCANTIC SPRING SPLASH
Competitive kayak races held each spring on the Scantic River, founded by brothers Mike and Jeff Dynia. Celebrated its 25th anniversary this past March. Proceeds from the event are donated to the Enfield Food Shelf.
