PHOTOS: Enfield vs. Fermi Field Hockey Alumni Game

The annual gathering drew 30 participants from as far away as Florida.

They came from as far away as Florida, New Hampshire and Salem, Mass. - 30 women representing five different decades of field hockey excellence from Enfield’s two high schools.

Ranging in age from 19 to 58, former players from Enfield and Fermi high schools gathered Saturday for the third annual alumni field hockey game at the Fermi stadium.

There were All-Americans, former Division I college players, high school All-State standouts, state championship team members, Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame inductees and some who hadn’t picked up a stick in more than 30 years.

Diane (Teske) O’Brien, a 1975 Fermi graduate, was awarded the perpetual trophy for being the “most veteran” participant. Leah Secondo, a broadcasting pioneer and charter member of the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame, took honors for traveling the furthest distance, flying up from Florida for the event.

Patrolling the sidelines were longtime Fermi coach Rosemary Sullivan, who drove down from New Hampshire for the occasion, and legendary Enfield coach Cookie Bromage, a five-time state champion and inductee into six halls of fame who is in her 49th season at the helm of the Raiders.

Regardless of the rain, the score or their current status in the sport, all participants shared the camaraderie and joy of getting back on the field with former teammates, past rivals and new friends, no matter which school they represented.
