Picture Enfield - Then and Now
A look at an old photograph from the town of Enfield, and how that site appears today, plus a trivia question about Enfield.

ENFIELD, CT — Today's installment of this weekly Enfield history series is actually a week overdue, as some much-needed time off last week resulted in my not posting the column. We return with another gem from former longtime Enfield resident Don Tenerowicz.
The recent stretch of rain, with some flooding in areas, brings back memories of the 1955 flood, which caused extensive damage in various parts of Enfield, particularly Thompsonville. This photo snapped by Tenerowicz shows flood damage at Enfield Street and Enfield Avenue, in front of Egan Buick and Molinski Oldsmobile.
Egan Buick, at 917 Enfield Street, has been through a number of incarnations over the past 60 years, and is currently home to a dry cleaner and laundromat. Here is a more recent view of the area, courtesy of the Enfield assessor's office (note: Sarapes has since moved to 95 High Street).

Last week's trivia answer:
Last week's trivia question was, "What Enfield High School graduate played football at Notre Dame and then professionally for the Detroit Lions?" The answer: Milt Piepul, who played for the Fighting Irish from 1937 to 1941, earning All-American honors, before embarking on a brief NFL career. He died March 19, 1994 at age 75, and became a charter member of the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. He was inducted into the American International College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
