Picture Enfield - Then and Now
An old photograph and story from Enfield's past and how that site appears today, plus a trivia question.

ENFIELD, CT — Today's installment of this weekly Enfield history series, courtesy of the Facebook group Picture Enfield, features Country Drug, a longtime fixture adjacent to Food Mart in the Elm Plaza at 95 Elm Street. The business thrived in the 1970s, a time when Enfield was dotted with numerous independent pharmacies, as opposed to the multiple chains found there today.
In addition to Country Drug, shoppers acquired their prescriptions, cosmetics and apparently liquor (as evidenced by the sign in the window) at small shops like Enfield Pharmacy, Alan Drug, Hazardville Pharmacy, Genovese Drug, Southwood Pharmacy and Thompsonville Pharmacy.
Here is a more contemporary look at the site, which is next to the current Best Buy.
