Picture Enfield - Then And Now
An old photograph and story from Enfield's past and how that site appears today, plus a trivia question.

ENFIELD, CT — Today's installment of this weekly Enfield history series revisits a popular chain restaurant which stood for about a dozen years at the Route 190 access road to the Enfield Square: Bickford's Family Restaurant.
In 1995, the longstanding Abdow's Big Boy restaurant was sold to the Brockton, Mass.-based Bickford's chain. The original Bickford's in Enfield was on the corner of Hazard Avenue and Palomba Drive (site of the current Key Bank building), and in the late 1990s, the restaurant moved into the former Abdow's location at 7 Hazard Avenue, at the south entrance to Enfield Square.
Bickford's, founded in 1921, was one of the first establishments where breakfast fare was served all day long; in fact, its slogan was "breakfast anytime."

The Route 190 restaurant closed abruptly in Oct. 2010, the same day as the Westfield, Mass. location. Today, just three restaurants operate under the Bickford's name, all in Massachusetts.
Chipotle Mexican Grill, an AT&T store and SuperCuts are currently housed in the remodeled building at 7 Hazard Avenue, as seen below.
