Picture Enfield - Then and Now

A look at an old photograph from the town of Enfield, and how that site appears today, plus a trivia question about Enfield.

ENFIELD, CT — Today's installment of this weekly Enfield history series, courtesy of the Facebook group Picture Enfield, features the original Route 5 location of McDonald's, at 385 Enfield Street.

The Ray Kroc-founded fast food chain operated at this location, between Dairy Queen and Colonial Camera, until the 1990s, when the former Abdow's Big Boy restaurant, just under a mile away at 34 Enfield Street, was torn down and replaced with a new McDonald's. The old building was purchased in 2006 by the Hamilton Sundstrand Federal Credit Union (now 360 Federal Credit Union), and a new structure was built which opened in 2007, according to Enfield land records.

Here is a photo of the building as it appears today.
