Please Share Your Photos and Memories of Fermi High School

Now that the Enfield school is officially closed, we would like to hear your favorite stories and see photos old and new of Fermi.

ENFIELD, CT - Upon graduation of the 45th and final Enrico Fermi High School class this past Thursday, I began reflecting upon the numerous memories of my alma mater.

Patch would like to hear your stories about Fermi, and in particular, see your photos of the school, whether from the early days right through the final commencement ceremony.

Please email your stories and pictures to tim.jensen@patch.com, and we will do a feature in the coming days.

To get you started, here are some of this author's best recollections:

  • Watching my brothers excel in ice hockey during the formative days of the mid-1970s, then joining them at the alumni game in Feb. 2016
  • The bus ride back from the New Haven Coliseum on March 12, 1983, after Fermi had defeated South Windsor for the Division II ice hockey championship and Enfield had beaten Notre Dame for the Division I crown (not to mention the after-party for both teams at the Renna house that night/the next morning)
  • School board chairman Roxy Burke handing me my diploma on June 8, 1983
  • Coming back to the Enfield Twin Rinks to announce Senior Day in 2009, after missing most of the season due to cancer treatment
  • Joining about 1,100 other alumni on the school's front hill for a Farewell to Fermi photo on June 18, 2016
  • Proudly watching my son act as co-grand marshal of the final graduation ceremony, an honor he and Brian Ruel earned by being ranked first and second in the junior class
