ENFIELD, CT — A felony case which began with the arrest of an Enfield resident on sexual assault charges in March extended into a lengthy investigation that resulted in a warrant being served on the man Tuesday on charges of possessing child pornography.

Christopher Irish, 36, was taken into custody at his Elm Street home around 7 p.m. Tuesday and charged with first-degree possession of child pornography. Bond was originally set at $500,000, and he was arraigned Wednesday in Hartford Superior Court, where the bond was reduced to $200,000. He remains in custody, according to judicial records.

On Feb. 15, police executed a search warrant at Irish's home following a complaint from the mother of "an underage person" that Irish had taken lewd photos of with his cell phone. A computer hard drive, VHS tape, a tablet and three cell phones were seized during the warrant execution, as well as a Nintendo gaming console and case which contained "an inappropriate photo of a juvenile," Police Chief Alaric Fox said.

Forensic analysis was performed on the items, and on March 17, Irish was charged with first-, third- and fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child. He "denied any physical contact" and was released after posting $100,000 bond, Fox said.

In early September, the forensics lab reported numerous images of sexual acts with both males and females, and the victim's mother identified some photos of her child. The victim was found to have appeared in seven videos and 100 still photos, Fox said.
