I Am Afraid

I am a straight, white, female with no disabilities who is offended by this Town Council.
I am afraid of what is happening in this town, the state, the country and the world.
My life has taken me around the sun many times now and to tell you the truth, I have never been more afraid than what I am now.
All of you on the Dias were voted in to represent people in this town. The only thing I see is that all of you on the TC and BOE are representing your own ideas, manipulating others to go along with your ideas and forcing them onto the residents of this town.
Unfortunately, it’s not just here, the state is doing it, the country is doing it and the world is doing it.
I am afraid for my children that are adult millennials and are trying to navigate through this mess that the boomer generation has created for them.
Millennials are taking their own lives or partaking in drugs or alcohol or both just to get by, hour by hour, day by day, month by month, year by year, trying to live.
I am afraid for my grandchildren and their children and so forth because they will not have the freedoms that us boomers have fought for and are still fighting for today to keep in place.
I want all of you to imagine, you have your son or daughter come up to you with angst and tears in their eyes telling you their sexual preferences. OR you find out your child has a physical disability or mental disability that sets them apart from others. Would you throw your child out? Would you do anything to protect your child? The LGBT rights are for them. The American With Disabilities Act protects them from being treated unfairly in the social environment.
You as the TC need to protect the rights of these people.
Removing a flag, books, a person on the Dias is not supporting a town trying to reach a goal of diversity. Not assisting people with disabilities to fill a position on the TC or BOE by not supplying them with the tools they need to effectively perform their duties in that position is unjustified.
Women’s rights are also in jeopardy. Do any of you have daughters or granddaughters? Stop thinking about yourself or your political party and start thinking about actual people, live people, you are supposed to be representing.
We need to stop this madness going on in this town. Maybe, just maybe, it will trickle to the state, then the country, then the world.
Yes, I am afraid and you should be too.
Don’t be part of the problem, be part of the solution!
Recite the Pledge of Allegiance and pay attention to each phrase and let it sink in.
