Raiders Heading Back to the Final Four
Enfield rips off the game's first 15 points en route to a 62-33 win and a second straight berth in the girls basketball Class M semifinals.
Enfield jumped out to a 15-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 62-33 victory over Rocky Hill in the Class M girls basketball quarterfinals Monday night at Fermi High School.
The Terriers did not get on the scoreboard until 2:18 remained in the opening quarter; by then, the Raiders had amassed a nearly insurmountable lead.
Enfield led 37-16 at halftime, thanks to 14 points by Morgan Baskerville, who picked up the scoring slack created by the limited playing time of her sister, Mary. Danielle Delano contributed 11 points in the opening half.
The Raiders kept building their lead to as many as 30 after intermission, and were able to get nearly every available player into the game. Ten different Enfield players scored points during the contest.
Delano led the Raiders with 21 points, while a solid defensive corps was paced by Erica Lovering, Delaney Lawler and Cat Fonseca.
Jenna Chipkin led Rocky Hill with 13 points.
Enfield, which remains undefeated at 23-0 (not counting three victories in the NCCC tournament) advances to the semifinals for the second straight year. Last season, they fell to eventual state champion St. Joseph.
This time around, the second-seeded Raiders will face No. 11 Notre Dame-Fairfield, which eliminated Immaculate, 44-26. That game will be played Friday at Berlin High School at 7:45 p.m.
