Reduction in Berm Outside CREC School Begins in Enfield
A settlement between CREC and the town of Enfield involves removal of some of the large berm in front of the Public Safety Academy.

ENFIELD, CT — Workers have begun reducing the size of a berm situated in front of the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) Public Safety Academy on Route 5, following resolution of a potential lawsuit with the town.
Since the school moved to its new building at 1617 King Street in 2014, town meetings have been regularly attended by Maureen Mullen, who lives adjacent to the school at 1625 King.
Mulen contends a berm constructed in front of the school is much larger than she had been led to believe, and her questions and complaints prompted CREC to initiate a lawsuit against the town in 2014, claiming it had received approval from town officials to build the barrier at its existing size.

The berm is more than 80 yards long, and ranges in height from 22 to 34 feet.
In settlement of the potential suit, CREC agreed to remove more than 9,000 cubic yards of soil from the site, improve drainage and drop legal action against the town.
