ENFIELD, CT — Six months after purchasing the Elm Plaza shopping center for $15.6 million, Ocean State Job Lot opened its new Enfield store Thursday in the former Best Buy location on the western end of the plaza.

The new Ocean State store occupies 35,199 square feet. Its previous location, which opened in March 1999 in the Enfield Commons plaza, measured 23,042 square feet, and was in operation through Wednesday.

"We are so pleased to announce the opening of our relocated Enfield store," Paul Cox, Director of Store Operations for Ocean State Job Lo, said in a written statement. "As we continue to identify ways to expand our physical footprint throughout the Northeast, we’re also looking for ways to upgrade our existing stores via renovation or relocation. We are thrilled to bring a bigger and better shopping experience to the Greater Hartford area ahead of the busy holiday shopping season."

Elm Plaza, at 95 Elm Street, includes a Kohl’s and several additional tenants. The Best Buy store closed in 2021. Longtime residents will recall the decades-long presence of a Food Mart supermarket at the current site of Ocean State, prior to the plaza's renovation in the 1990s.

Ocean State is currently hiring for additional positions to support the new, larger location. Positions include store leadership, supervisory, full-time and part-time jobs. The company offers part-time and full-time benefits, a 30 percent associate store discount and a cash bonus referral program. Candidates can apply at www.oceanstatejoblot.com/careers.
