Report: Abused Enfield Baby Suffered Injuries Weeks Before Being Removed from Home

Documents reportedly show that an infant left in the care of a man who was arrested this week for abusing him apparently suffered from injuries — including broken bones, for weeks before being removed from the suspect’s custody.

Child welfare officials removed the baby and two other toddlers from their Enfield home in late March and remain in custodial care, according to The Courant which reviewed court documents related to the arrest of Michael Lee Jiles Jr. of Springfield, MA.

Enfield Police obtained an arrest warrant and charged Jiles on Wednesday with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, cruelty to persons, and risk of injury to a minor. He remains in custody on $250,000 bond.

The documents reportedly reveal the baby suffered from broken ribs, a broken arm and thigh and blood clotting around the brain.
