Robert J. Phelps, 78; Enfield Resident Who Was Corrections Department Retiree

Robert J. Phelps, beloved husband of Janice A. (Cagle) Phelps of Enfield, passed away in the comfort of his family on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. He was 78.

Born in Sanford, ME on April 22, 1936, son of the late Norman Phelps and Rose (Poulin) Twele and lived in Enfield for most of his life.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959 and was honorably discharged. Before retiring in 2003, he was employed at the Department of Corrections for 22 years. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid sailor.

In addition to his wife, he leaves four children, Deborah Riley and husband, Walter, Janine Stevenson and husband, John, Steven Phelps and wife, Joyce and Robert Phelps II and wife, Dena; nine grandchildren, Paul Phelps and wife, Johanna, Jennifer Weeks, Tanis, Cameron, Ryan, Hannah, Bailey, Riley and Taylor Phelps; two great-grandchildren, Analia Phelps and Philippe Trefilov; and a sister-in-law, Carla Phelps.

He was predeceased by a brother, Roger Phelps.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hartford Hospital for their kindness and compassion.

Services and burial will be held privately.
