Roy Leading Enfield High School to Excellent Golf Season
The senior is constantly improving his game, pacing the Raiders to a 7-1 league record thus far this season.

ENFIELD, CT - Sam Roy has been a model of consistency and constant improvement during his four years with the Enfield High School golf team, and his leadership has propelled the Raiders to one of their finest seasons in recent years.
Enfield has posted a 7-1 record in North Central Connecticut Conference play this season, trailing only undefeated and Division III top seed Suffield for league honors.
"We've had a very solid season so far for such a young team," coach Bill Walpole said.

In a non-league match Thursday, the Raiders fell to unbeaten South Windsor by a 156-170 score; despite the loss, it was the third-best team score posted this season.
Roy, as usual, was top man with an even-par 36.

"Sam has been consistently great," Walpole understated.
He was beyond great on April 25, when he fired a 4-under 32 on the front nine at Cedar Knob Golf Course in Somers in a victory over SMSA.
Roy showed signs of excellence early on, tying for 11th with a 78 in the Division III championship as a freshmanat Timberlin Golf Club in 2013. The following year, he placed fifth with a 76 at Tallwood Country Club in Hebron, and tied for fifth as a junior with a 74, just two strokes behind the winner, at Fairview Farm in Harwinton.
This year's tournament will be June 6 at Crestbrook Park in Watertown, and Roy, who has committed to attend Methodist University in the fall to study a professional golf management program, looks to make that final step from top 5 to champion.
His less experienced teammates are showcasing their potential as well.
"Alec Burkholder is a sophomore who shoots in the low 40s, and in the 30s on occasion, including a 37 at Cedar Knob," Walpole said. "(Senior) Matt Votta came onto the team last year as a beginner and shot in the 50s all year, but he has been dedicated and focused at the range and worked hard. His last several rounds have been in the low 40s, including a 40 at Cedar Knob."
The Raiders are currently seeded 13th for the Division III tournament.
