Ruth Coccia, 80; Gifted Musician Who Loved Cooking Great Italian Food for Her Family; Longtime Enfield Resident

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 30 with the funeral service scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 31.

Ruth Coccia, 80, of Enfield, beloved wife of John Coccia for 59 years, entered into eternal peace on Sunday January 25, 2015 at her home.

Born in Hartford, Ruth was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Lucia (Latina) Berardi.

She graduated from Hartford High School and continued her education at the Julius Harte School of Music at the University of Hartford. She had lived in the Enfield community since 1958 and was a member of the Hartford Ecclesia Church. Ruth was a very active member in the church. She was the organist, secretary and was on the cheer committee.

Prior to living out her passion for teaching piano, she worked at Connecticut Mutual Insurance. Ruth was a gifted musician who taught piano for 25 years both out of her home and for Music Men. In her leisure time she loved spending quality time with her family, playing trivia games, and cooking delicious, great Italian food. Ruth had a kind, sweet heart and loved helping her friends in many thoughtful ways. She also enjoyed playing the piano and listening to classical music. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed the vacations and daytrips to the ocean. She treasured times spent at Tanglewood, and going to the Bushnell for operas and plays. Ruth was a beautiful Christian woman, who truly loved and enjoyed being a wonderful wife and fabulous mom!

Besides her loving and highly devoted husband John, she is survived by her three children, her two sons John N. Coccia Sr. and his wife Christine M. of Dudley, MA, Lou A. Coccia Sr. and his wife Beth of Coventry, and her daughter Marilu Ruth Coccia of Enfield; four grandchildren, John N. Coccia, Jr., Christopher M. Coccia, Lou A. Coccia II, and Katie J. Coccia; four great grandchildren, Morgan, Rowyn, Dominic, and Anthony.

She was predeceased by her two sisters, Anne Goncalves and Esther Secondo and her son in law Robert S. Golden Sr.

Calling hours will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday January 30th at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. The funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. at Leete-Stevens. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
