School Record Falls as Enfield, Fermi Athletes Experience Success at State Track and Field Meets

Tyrik Henry of Enfield broke a 29-year-old school record Wednesday.

A longstanding Enfield High School record went by the wayside as track and field athletes from both town high schools competed in their respective class meets Wednesday.

Enfield was at Willow Brook Park in New Britain for the Class M meet, where sophomore Tyrik Henry set a new school mark in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.97 seconds. The previous record of 15.3 seconds had been set by Wickley Brown back in 1984.

Henry finished fourth in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 300 hurdles, with times good enough to qualify for the State Open next week.

Rachel Kaliff had the best showing for the Raider girls, placing seventh in the triple jump.

Meanwhile, at Middletown High School, Fermi was competing in the Class MM championships.

Sashanova McLaughlin finished second in the triple jump; her distance of 34'11" qualified her for the State Open.

For the boys, Ernie Bouthiette took fifth in the pole vault, also qualifying for the State Open. Garrett Zorda was seventh in the discus, and Anthony O'Connell finished eighth in the long jump.

The State Open will be held Monday, June 3 at Willow Brook Park.
