Man Charged In Assault Which Led To Gunfire: Enfield PD [UPDATED]

An exchange of gunfire resulted in no injuries following an assault call on Church Street Tuesday morning, according to police.

ENFIELD, CT — The northern segment of Church Street in the Thompsonville section of Enfield was closed for a good portion of Tuesday as police investigated an assault case which resulted in an exchange of gunfire.

Around 8:17 a.m., police received a report of shots fired in the area of 129 Church Street. An investigation determined after an assault incident at that location, several shots were fired from the street, and several from within the house. Shell casings have been located in the area, Police Chief Alaric Fox said.

The victim of the original assault was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. No injuries were reported in connection with the shooting, Fox said.

Hassan Iverson, 37, of Maryland, was being detained when he broke free of police and fled. He was captured after a brief foot chase, police said.

Iverson was charged with interfering with an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $5,000 cash/surety bond, and is slated to appear in Hartford Superior Court Nov. 22.
