Supreme Court Rules Enfield Is Liable for Sidewalk Fall Injuries

The court: Even though the town requires resident to clear snow and ice from sidewalks, the town never transferred liability to the owners.

Enfield property owners are not liable for injuries suffered when someone slips on an icy sidewalk in front of their home or business, the Connecticut Supreme Court has ruled.

The ruling is the result of a lawsuit filed by a woman who slipped on a patch of ice in Enfield and sued the property owners for negligence, according to a Connecticut Post report.

The court ruled that the Town of Enfield is liable for injuries because it never made property owners explicitly liable for injuries even though it requests them to clear sidewalks, according to the report which can be found here.
