SUV Goes Over Embankment Into Connecticut River In Enfield
A man operating the vehicle will be charged with reckless driving, according to police.

ENFIELD, CT — A man and woman escaped potential disaster Friday afternoon when their sport utility vehicle went down a short embankment and partially into the Connecticut River near the Donald Barnes boat launch on South River St.

According to the woman, she was a passenger in a Ford Escape operated by her boyfriend, who was driving the SUV on the dirt area bounding the river just south of the boat launch. He tried to back the vehicle up, but went too far and it went down the slight decline into the water, she said.

Police and firefighters responded quickly to the scene, around 3:47 p.m., and the couple had freed themselves unharmed and were on the banks when rescue personnel arrived. A tow truck and flatbed from Bosco's Automotive arrived to pull the SUV from the water.
The man will be charged with reckless driving, according to police.
