Symetra's Enfield Employees Give Back During Week of Service
"This was our biggest Symetra Week of Service effort yet—a true reflection of our employees' volunteer spirit."—Symetra CEO Margaret Meister
Opting to turn the volunteer volume up to “10,” Symetra set out to make a big impact in communities across its office footprint as the national provider of employee benefits, annuities and life insurance celebrated the 10th anniversary of Symetra Week of Service earlier this month.
Some 90 Symetra employees from the company's Enfield office took a break from their workday to give back to the community — contributing 220 volunteer hours to several local nonprofit organizations.
Teams of volunteers helped replace warehouse shelving at Enfield Food Shelf, prune and weed at Elizabeth Park Conservancy, prep for an outdoor picnic at the Town of Enfield Senior Center, and clean and organize at the Town of Enfield Adult Day Center. Employees unable to participate in off-site projects gathered in the company's conference rooms throughout the week to help make fleece blankets to donate to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center.

“This was our biggest Symetra Week of Service effort yet — a true reflection of our employees’ volunteer spirit and a genuine expression of our ‘Swift to Serve’ core value,” said Ms. Meister. “As a company, Symetra is committed to making a positive impact in our communities. As individuals, our employees are empowered to give back to the causes and organizations that matter to them personally through hands-on service opportunities like this much-anticipated annual program.”
Symetra Week of Service began in 2009 with 130 employees in the company's Bellevue, Washington headquarters volunteering at seven Puget Sound-area projects. For 2018's Week of Service, 800 Symetra employees volunteered at 83 projects across the country on behalf of 57 nonprofit organizations. Since the program's inception, Symetra employees have contributed more than 14,000 Week of Service hours.
