Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...?
A photo and story of businesses from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — In this weekly series, Enfield Patch publishes a photo of a business or landmark in town that is no longer in existence.
Today we go back more than 40 years, to a mid-1970s shot of the interior of the relatively new Enfield Square shopping mall on Elm Street.
As seen in the photo, the Square, which opened in 1971, was bustling with activity at that time. Anchor stores were G. Fox & Co., JC Penney and Steiger's, while the numerous interior shops included Airport, L'Expo Pizza, Child World, Thom McAn, Chess King and Friendly's.

Major differences between the mall then and now include the fountains, the 100 percent occupancy rate and, umm, customers.
Enfield Patch invites readers to share memories of their favorite Square shops in the comments section below.
