Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...?

An old advertisement and story of a business from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — In this weekly series, Enfield Patch remembers a business or landmark in town that is no longer in existence.

We continue the new format of this column we recently instituted: old advertisements from local businesses in some 1970s and 1980s Enfield and Fermi high school yearbooks and early-1960s to mid-1980s telephone directories and newspapers (remember newspapers - those things people used to read in the morning with their coffee...).

Today we go all the way back to a 1965 Yellow Pages ad containing several anachronisms: the word "Rambler" and a telephone prefix of a pair of letters.

Economy Rambler, Inc. was a car dealership at 525 Enfield Street. The Rambler was a model produced by Nash Motors until 1954, when it was succeeded by the American Motors Corporation (AMC).

AMC discontinued production of the Rambler in 1969.

The site on Route 5 eventually was operated by the Artioli family, which is still a thriving business today. The dealership has incorporated several makes over the years, including AMC and Jeep, and is currently known as Artioli Chrysler Dodge Ram.

Enfield Patch invites readers to share their memories in the comments section below.
