Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...?
An old advertisement and story of a business from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — In this weekly series, Enfield Patch remembers a business or landmark in town that is no longer in existence.
We continue the format of this column we recently instituted: old advertisements from local businesses in some 1960s-1980s Enfield and Fermi high school yearbooks and early-1960s to mid-1980s telephone directories and newspapers.
Today we look back a half-century to the 1967 Enfield High School yearbook for an ad for Elm Garage, which was located for many years at 100 Elm Street.

Elm Garage was a full service gas station where not only did an employee pump your gas, but also washed your windshield and checked your oil for no additional charge.
Adam and Joseph Polek operated the service station beginning in 1960 until selling it in 1985. Other nearby businesses included the Thompsonville Bowling Center, which was torn down in the early 1970s to make way for the Enfield Square shopping mall.
