Town of Enfield 1st Annual Wear Purple Day Scheduled for Oct. 10

Town of Enfield's First Annual Wear Purple Day on October 10 to Raise Awareness About Domestic Abuse

The Network Against Domestic Abuse is partnering with Asnuntuck Community College, the Enfield Town Council and Enfield Public Schools to create the Town of Enfield First Annual Wear Purple Day on Wednesday, October 10. Enfield residents are encouraged to wear purple in honor of domestic violence awareness month and to celebrate the victors of intimate partner violence.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the “Day of Unity” held in October 1981 and conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent was to connect advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children. The Day of Unity soon became an entire week devoted to a range of activities conducted at the local, state, and national level. Activities conducted during the month of October vary but have common themes: mourning those who have died because of domestic violence, celebrating those who have survived and connecting those who work to end violence.

On October 10th, Asnuntuck Community College will be offering chair massages in the Tower Lobby from 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. for a $5.00 fee. All proceeds will benefit The Network. In addition, Asnuntuck Community College will be collecting new, unused items for Julie’s safe house such as diapers, juice boxes, shampoo, conditioner, hair brushes, hair ties, underwear and bras. For a complete list of items needed at the safe house, please visit The Network’s website at www.thenetworkct.org.
