Town, State Officials to Meet at Scantic River Park

The public is invited to join state and town officials at a Sept. 1 meeting concerning ongoing problems at the Scantic River State Park in Enfield.

Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection representatives will gather with Enfield officials at the park entrance, at the corner of South Maple Street and Powder Hill Road in the Hazardville section of town, at 11:30 a.m. that day to discuss the constant trashing and abuse of the tiny state park, the Hartford Courant reported.

Enfield Patch first brought the issue to light in July 2012, following a Fourth of July party in the park which left the riverfront area a mess and dozens of cars illegally parked on the roadside of the dangerous S-curves of Powder Hill Road.

Since then, various attempts have been made to curb the problem, including the placement of tipper barrels and a ban on alcohol on the premises, with little to no success.
