Underground Fire Breaks Out At Enfield Warehouse

A fire broke out at a neighbor of the Enfield Fire Department Monday afternoon.

ENFIELD, CT — An underground fire broke out at the Brooks Brothers warehouse in Enfield on Monday afternoon.

Enfield Fire Rescue District 1 Chief Ed Richards said the call came in at 1:57 p.m. The Brooks Brothers warehouse is a neighbor of the fire department at 107 Phoenix Ave.

When firefighters arrived, they noticed flames showing from a "high voltage underground switchgear vault" under the front of the building, along the roadway, according to Richards.

Utility crews arrived to disconnect electrical service and the building was evacuated as a precaution, Richards said.

The fire was under control at 3 p.m. and the damage was limited to the utility vault. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
