Understanding Animal, Plant Life One Cell at a Time
Enfield students at St. Bernard School use their creativity in the classroom.

Students in Miss Brooke Landry’s seventh-grade Life Science class at St. Bernard School recently completed their study of the cell structure.
Each student was required to create a 3-D model of either a plant or animal cell for their first-term project. The purpose of the project was to better understand the function of each organelle within the cell and to identify the differences between plant and animal cell structures.
Students were asked to select items to represent various cell structures and justify their choices by describing how the items they have chosen represent the actual parts of a cell. Students showed their creativity by using materials including Jell-O, Styrofoam, toy models, pipe cleaners, beads, cake, candy and other food products.
