Valedictorians and Salutatorians to Remain at Enfield Graduations

The Board of Education had entertained an idea last week to eliminate those designations, citing increased pressure and competition.

High school students in Enfield will now be on a 4.0 academic scale more in line with most other school systems, due to a policy change enacted at Tuesday’s night’s Board of Education meeting.

The current system of a 16-point maximum will be altered thanks to a unanimous vote of the board.

Another change brought forth as an idea last week at a special meeting of the board involved eliminating the valedictorian and salutatorian designations. Nearly a dozen students addressed the board Tuesday, stating the competition to achieve those high ranks is “healthy.”

Following about 40 minutes of public audiences, mostly from current students, the board agreed to keep the valedictorian and salutatorian positions intact, as well as class rankings.
