Veterans Advocate Ted Plamondon Jr. of Enfield Passes Away At 93
He organized the Enfield Memorial and Veterans Day parades for 60 years, and was chairman of the Enfield World War II Monument Committee.
ENFIELD, CT — Theodore "Ted" Plamondon Jr., a community icon who was one of Enfield's most beloved and decorated war veterans, passed away Tuesday. He was 93.
Plamondon, a lifelong Enfield resident, entered the U.S. Navy during World War II, going on active duty in 1943. He was the recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation WWII Victory Medal and European Theater Ribbon with two stars, and also received the Legion of Merit from Chapel of the Four Chaplains.
Following a 22-year career in the Navy and Reserves, Plamondon became actively involved with a number of Enfield-based veterans organizations. For 20 years, he served as chairman of the Enfield Veterans Council, and organized the town's Memorial Day and Veterans Day parades for 60 years.

He was a lifetime member and senior vice commander of AMVETS Post 18; past commander and life member of the VFW Post 1501; a life member and past commander of the Rinaldi-Fede Italian- American War Veterans Post 17; and a member of the John Maciolek American Legion Post 154. In 2009, he was inducted into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame.
Plamondon was chairman of the Enfield World War II Monument Committee, and spearheaded the dedication of a new monument on the town green, honoring fallen citizens from 20th-century wars.

His dedication to his community included a stint as an Enfield police officer, and six decades as an elected town constable. He was named co-recipient of the Enfield Citizen of the Year Award in 1996, received the Enfield Patriot Award in 2006, was named Enfield Democrat of the Year in 2014 and was named Veteran of the Year by the local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter in 2018. Around the region, Plamondon was a Hartford County sheriff for 28 years, and a state marshal for more than 40 years.

According to Plamondon's obituary from Browne Memorial Funeral Home, calling hours will take place both Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21, from 2 to 5 p.m. each day. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church; a procession will begin forming at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home at 43 Shaker Road.
