ENFIELD, CT — The Connecticut Water Company (CWC) is beginning installation of a new water main the week of August 7 on Belmont, Warriner and Columbus avenues, just east of Route 5 in Thompsonville.

Nearly half a mile, or 2,400 feet, of water main will be installed at a cost of around $700,000. The new main replaces existing pipe that was installed in 1955. Three fire hydrants will also be replaced as part of the project. The main and fire hydrants will provide additional fire protection for public safety and improved water quantity and quality to area residents, according to information provided by CWC.

Work hours for the project will be 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and installation is expected to be completed by November. The project is funded through the Water Infrastructure and Conservation Adjustment (WICA) on customer bills. Connecticut Water’s goal is to replace about one percent of its more than 1,850 miles of water main every year through the WICA program. The company plans to invest over $52 million in water treatment, water storage and pipelines in 2023.

Customers in the construction area have been notified of the project and will receive advance notice of any scheduled water service interruption because of the water main installation project.

"Investing in drinking water infrastructure improves water system reliability and enhances water quality," CWC Vice President of Service Delivery Rose Gavrilovic said. "When customers turn on the tap they expect high-quality water, without interruption. This investment in new water main will serve customers for decades to come."
