Wreaths Across America Ceremony in Enfield: PHOTOS
Photographer Rich Tanguay captured some stirring images from Saturday's ninth annual ceremony.
ENFIELD, CT — After being forced to cancel last year's event due to a snowstorm, organizers of Enfield's annual Wreaths Across America ceremony were able to proceed with the 2017 rendition Saturday despite bone-chilling cold at St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery.
Enfield veterans, assisted by local Boy and Girl Scouts, placed six holiday wreaths in honor of the branches of the United States armed forces: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines. A seventh wreath was placed in recognition of U.S. prisoners of war and missing in action.
Among the speakers reading the names of Enfield residents who made the ultimate sacrifice were Police Chief Carl Sferrazza, whose brother Angelo was killed in Vietnam in 1966, and Lou Johnson, who lost his son Philip in Iraq in 2006.
