Zetterholm Repeats as Division 3 Golf Champion

The 2012 co-champion won the title outright by one stroke this year, and led Enfield High School to a tie for fifth in team competition.

After tying for the Division 3 golf championship last season, Ryan Zetterholm of Enfield High School was determined to do one better and win the title outright this year.

On Monday, he traveled to Timberlin Golf Club in Berlin and did just that, posting a 1-under par 71 to claim a one-stroke victory in the individual competition.

In a round interrupted for nearly two hours by rain, Zetterholm wound up edging Jason Hogan of Holy Cross, the player with whom he tied for last year's crown.

The left-handed swinging Zetterholm carded three birdies and two bogeys in his championship round.

"My driver was my best club," he told the Hartford Courant. "I hit it for distance and had accuracy. Considering the circumstances, it was my best round of the year."

Zetterholm qualified for the New England Championship, to be held June 17 at the Bretwood Golf Club North Course in Keene, NH. was not the only Raider to post an impressive score Monday. Freshman Sam Roy shot 78 to tie for 11th place, while Will Lloyd and Mike Knapp shot 88 and 89, respectively.

"We came in seeded 14th and showed up with four guys," Enfield coach Bill Walpole said. "It was an amazing day, and I'm very proud of the team."
